How You Can Help

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and have made our programs possible. By generously giving their time, energy and heart to our cause, more of the dollars donated to our foundation can be used to directly benefit the families we serve during their NICU stay and beyond. Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering for Holding Tiny Hands! I am thrilled that you are interested in becoming involved in our mission of providing services to families with newborns in intensive care. We depend on graduate families and other community members to provide hope and inspiration to our current NICU families. Ways that you can become involved are below:

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Meals for Moms & Dads:

We provide 24 meals each year to Blank Children’s Hospital and Mercy Medical Center and are in need of hosts for each meal. Responsibilities include set-up/clean-up, receiving food from the caterer, and making families feel welcome.

We are also in need of someone to serve as the project coordinator who would be responsible for soliciting and coordinating hosts for the meals.

Communications Team:

We are currently in need of volunteers for the following:

  • Create and distribute monthly event e-mails
  • Write our quarterly newsletter (in conjunction with the Director of ∙Communications and Executive Director)
  • Social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
  • Bloggers
  • Coordinate our NICU All-Stars—this is a page on our website that highlights a current or graduate NICU baby. This position is responsible for soliciting stories and pictures, identifying NICU All-Stars, editing, and submitting items to the web designer.

All communications opportunities can be done from the comfort of your home. If you are interested in any of our communications opportunities, please e-mail 1-2 paragraphs indicating which opportunity you are interested in and why you are suited to fulfill this need to

Tiny Hearts

Tiny Hearts are given to mothers whose newborn infants have been admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  This fabric heart is worn against the mother’s skin, inside clothing, so that the fabric absorbs the scent of the mother.  The heart is then placed with the baby in the isolette to bring comfort to the baby from the familiar scent of Mom which calms the baby.

Data Entry:

We have intermittent needs with data entry projects. These projects can be done from the comfort of your home.
